The Training and Empowerment of Women and Youths for SMEs with Start-Up Grants for Karaye / Rogo Federal Constituency, Kano State, Nigeria was successfully conducted from 28th April to 2nd May 2026 at Darull Tauheed Event Centre Hall, Trade Fair, Zoo Road, Kano State. The programme was organized to equip women and youth with practical Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills and entrepreneurial knowledge required to establish, manage, and expand Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). A total of One Hundred (100) participants drawn from communities across Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituencies benefitted from the training, which aimed to enhance digital literacy, promote self-employment, and improve participants’ readiness to access and effectively utilize start-up grants.
The training covered four major ICT competency areas:
- Computer Operation
- Introduction to Computer Networks
- Artificial Intelligence (AI), and
- Web Design
Participants acquired practical knowledge of basic computer operations, file management, networking concepts, internet connectivity, and safe use of computer systems. They were also introduced to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and its application in business, including the use of AI tools to support content creation, customer engagement, business communication, and digital marketing. In addition, participants developed basic Wed Design skills that can be applied to create online platforms for business promotion and improved customer outreach.
The programme adopted a participatory training approach involving lectures, practical demonstrations, hands-on computer exercises, group discussions, presentations, and interactive question-and-answer sessions. This approach enabled participants to actively engage in the learning process, strengthen their practical ICT competencies, and appreciate the role of digital technologies in improving business productivity, branding, communication, and market access. The entrepreneurship component of the training further enhanced participants’ understanding of how ICT can be integrated into SME development to support innovation, business growth, and sustainable livelihoods.
The programme successfully achieved its objectives by improving participants’ digital skills, entrepreneurial capacity, and confidence to establish or strengthen ICT-enabled enterprises. Participants expressed satisfaction with the quality and relevance of the training and indicated their commitment to applying the knowledge and skills acquired to improve existing business or establish new ventures.
